Pune: Marking World Environment Day, Mitsubishi Electric India has launched a transformative CSR initiative in partnership with Earthwatch Institute India, aimed at developing sustainable lake ecosystems and enhancing climate resilience in Talegaon (Pimpri Chinchwad near Pune) and Pulicat (near Chennai).

This landmark effort reflects the company’s dedication to environmental stewardship under its long-standing “Changes for the Better” vision.

The initiative is strategically aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation, and SDG 13 – Climate Action). It focuses on conserving critical waterbodies, empowering local communities, and educating future generations through experiential learning and citizen science.

Key Features of the Mitsubishi Electric India CSR Initiative:
  • Training 25 local Self-Help Groups, including women and fisherfolk, to become Lake Stewards and lead grassroots conservation efforts.
  • Tree plantations to stabilize shorelines, reduce erosion, and improve environmental quality in the selected regions.
  • Biodiversity support by nurturing native ecosystems and promoting ecological balance.
  • Citizen science and school workshops to raise awareness on water quality, sanitation, and climate change impacts.
  • Interactive educational programmes and digital field guides to connect communities with the biodiversity of their local waterbodies.

“Conserving waterbodies is essential in the face of growing climate risks. Our initiative not only restores ecosystems but also inspires sustainable habits among youth and communities,” said Atsushi Takase, Managing Director, Mitsubishi Electric India.

“Wetlands act as climate buffers. Their conservation depends on active community participation and awareness,” added Raghuvansh Saxena, CEO, Earthwatch Institute India.

Running through March 2026, the initiative combines conservation science with grassroots education to build a resilient future.

The program underscores Mitsubishi Electric India’s CSR focus on inclusive, community-led environmental action and its ongoing contribution to a more sustainable tomorrow.
